As a followup to my post from the other day regarding managing your life online from anywhere, I thought I would take a minute to explain how you can create blog posts for WordPress as easily as you would write an e-mail.

Some might find it annoying (as I do) to login to your WordPress control panel just to write a blog post. Additionally, those posting on the run via a mobile device will find posting via e-mail is much easier than logging into the control panel.

In order to post to your WordPress blog via e-mail, do the following:

1. Login to you WordPress control panel (just this once)
2. Click “Settings”
3. Click “Writing”
3. Look for the section that says “Post via e-mail”
4. Use this section to create a customized e-mail address that only you know and begin sending your posts (just as you would an e-mail) to that e-mail address.

As you may have imagined, the Subject of the e-mail you write will be the Title of your post, the Body will be your actual posted content and any attached pictures will be the pictures that get included with your post.

Pretty much as simple as that. If you have any questions…shoot us a comment!

Manage Your Life (online) Anywhere

Debut Designs understands the importance of social media applications like Twitter, Facebook etc. Many people who are using the web to communicate and reach out to their customers understands how powerful Twitter and Facebook can really be. On the other hand, many people who are just getting involved on Twitter and Facebook view each as a burden and have a hard time finding time to manage these applications.

A few months ago Debut Design sponsored a social media conference where many “newbies” to social media were in attendance. I noticed a consistent theme among all of these newbies; all were unable to find or take the time to manage their Facebook or Twitter accounts or even their blogs. It occurred to me at that point that instead of finding the time to sit down and manage these accounts it was ten times more effective to leverage mobile technology (cell phones) to manage these accounts.

The recurring theme that I realized when talking to people about using Twitter, Facebook or a blog is that they don’t have the time to sit down and do what needs to be done with each. Quite simply, my response is to take their Twitter, Facebook and blog with them. Smartphones have become more and more popular and Twitter and Facebook applications are available for every major smartphone today.

All of this being said, I encourage anyone who doubts their ability to find the time to manage their Twitter, Facebook or blog to invest in a smartphone this holiday season and start managing their accounts more effectively on the go. Another important note is that beyond the ability to manage these accounts on the go, it is those on-the-go Tweets and Facebook updates that make for interesting online conversation and dynamic.

For some information regarding smartphones, take a look at the Verizon Smartphone Resource Center:

kuler.adobe | Find a color scheme (or theme) that works for you

kuler is a great user generated color scheme site. Users can submit color schemes, and other users decide just how good it is. This is good news for someone having a bit of trouble figuring out what colors they should use for a website, logo, flyer, etc.

I’m of the belief that colors can make or break a great design. Kuler.adobe won’t pick the colors that will work best for every situation, but it does make for a good starting point.

A New Focus

Debut Designs has recently struggled to decide how, where and to whom we should be offering our services.  Just recently, we have made the decision to go beyond focusing solely on the Realtor market but instead offer our graphic design, web design and social media consulting services to a multitude of different industries.

The experiences that our team possess and the skills that we have were limited by offering our services in only one market.  Although we are very excited to be a part of the aggressive initiative that Realtors have taken in the last few years in regards to social media and web marketing, we see great value in spreading this same enthusiasm to other industries.  It is our hope to remain involved in the real estate industry and continue to offer our services to real estate professionals but at the same time expand our horizons and begin working with other industry professionals.

It is for this reason that you will now see a more general approach taken in regards to our website content and the services we provide.  As a Realtor and now any individual looking for web and graphic design services, we are happy to provide you with top-notch and customized service.

Get out there. (On the web)

One of the number one suggestions Realtors get from business professionals and other Realtors is to “get out there”.  Visibility of your brand and the services you provide is true for not only Realtors but any business.  Being in the public eye through community events, advertisments, trade shows, networking events etc. is important.  The more you can do and the more people you can engage the better.

Now, as we all already know, there are a ton of people on the internet.  So, if your goal is to “get out there” and have your brand seen by as many people as possible, it would make perfect sense to “get out there” on the web!  There are so many ways to meet and engage people on the internet and it goes way beyond and old and boring static webpage.  If you haven’t already started to use social websites and tools like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and perhaps most important a blog, now is the time!

What we suggest…

Don’t hestiate to give it all a try.  Twitter and Facebook are quite possibly some of the easiest tools to use to promote yourself and ultimately your brand.  Most importantly, they are free to start using!  You need to find what works for you and what you are going to be commited to using.  The best thing to do is start!  Learn how to use these tools by simply using them.  Learn from your mistakes as you begin and soon you will be a social media/marketing pro!

Don’t continue to hope people are seeing your static website.  Engage your current and future customers not only where they are in town but also where they are on the web.  The relationships you build on the internet are just as powerful as those you build in-person.

Get out there today, on the web!
